Outsourced CTO

Outsource your CTO, not your judgment.

A veteran takes ownership of your technology leadership, the roadmap, the engineering team, the board conversation, on a flexible retainer. Not a dev shop. Not an advisor. An acting technical executive, outsourced.

What outsourcing the CTO function actually means

This is leadership, not labor. An outsourced CTO is different from an outsourced dev team:

  • An outsourced CTO owns decisions

Architecture, roadmap, hiring bar, vendor choices, and the board narrative. The accountable technical voice, not a pair of hands.

  • An outsourced dev shop owns tickets

They build what they are told. Useful, but someone senior still has to decide what to build and whether it is any good. That someone is us.

What stays in-house, what we own

Your team keeps building. We take over the technical decisions that were landing on a founder who is not an engineer, or on a lead developer who should be coding, not running the function. You get an executive-grade owner for strategy, delivery oversight, hiring, and board prep.

Straight terms

Flexible retainer, 10–40 hours per week, scaled to your stage. A fixed quote before we start. No equity, no long-term lock-in, month to month after the first engagement period. If we are not creating value, firing us should be easy.

“When questions popped up or changes were requested, they were on point ready to make those ideas come to life.”

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is an outsourced CTO the same as outsourced development?

No. Outsourced development builds what it is told. An outsourced CTO decides what to build, owns the roadmap and the hiring bar, and answers to the board. We lead the function; we do not replace your engineers.

How is this different from a fractional or interim CTO?

Same senior leadership, different framing. Fractional is ongoing part-time; interim covers a gap; outsourced means the whole CTO function sits with us on a retainer. We help you pick on the intro call. Fractional vs Interim vs Full-Time →

What does it cost?

Retainers are scoped by hours with a fixed quote before we start. Typically a fraction of a full-time executive salary. See typical market rates →

Can you work with our existing developers or an offshore team?

Yes, that is the common case. We lead and raise the bar on whoever is building, in-house or outsourced.

Outsource the function. Keep the judgment in the room.
